Library seeking Spooky Short Story Contest entries

Entries due by 11:59 p.m. Monday, October 11th

We want to hear your best spooky story!

If you live in Clark County and are a child between the ages of 6 and 18, submit your best, original, most scary story, for a chance to win prizes AND the opportunity to have your recorded, winning story, shared online! (If 18, must still be in high school.)

Stories will be judged on originality, creativity and spookiness (not violent content). Original stories only (use of copyrighted material is prohibited). Stories will become the property of the Clark County Public Library and will not be returned. Incomplete submissions will not be accepted. (Employees and their family members/members of household are not eligible to win.)

Story must be sent as a Word document or PDF and should be between 100 and 250 words in length. Send original story to spookystories@ccplohio.org by 11:59 p.m. on Monday, October 11th, 2021. Submissions must included the child's first and last name, age/grade, address, phone number and the parent or guardian signature stating that they give permission. (Entries without signed permission will not be accepted). Click here for details and permission form: https://www.ccplohio.org/wp-content/uploads/sites/86/2021/09/2021-Spooky-Short-Story-Flyer.pdf

There will be two winners in each age group: 6-8, 9-12, 13-18. Winners must be able to come to the Main Library to read the story or be present while library staff reads their story on October 27th at 6:30 p.m.

If (due to COVID restrictions) we cannot have in-person event, we would like the winners to be able to submit an audio recording of them reading their original story, with permission from their parent/guardian to post it online (only first name of child will be given). If not possible, that is fine. We will still post their first name and title of their story. Awards may be picked up at the Main Library.
