Clark County Public Library Director Set to Retire November 28th
(Springfield, OH--)
After seven and a half years and many positive changes for the Clark County Public Library, Director Bill Martino will retire from the library system, November 28th, 2025.
Before coming to the Clark County Public Library, Martino served as the Director of the Holmes County District Public Library from February 2011 to May 2018. Prior to that he was Executive Director of the Northeast Ohio Regional Library System, Director of Minerva Public Library and an Assistant Director at the Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County.
In addition to his work with libraries, Martino also taught classes in History at Kent State University, beginning in the early 90s to May 2018.
Under his direction the Clark County Public Library system has expanded its reach into the Clark County area through more library locations and the Bookmobile/Outreach Department. Community partnerships have also been encouraged and fostered under his guidance, as well as the growth and diversity of the library’s program and technology offerings.
During his tenure, Martino also oversaw the development and completion of many capital improvement projects including the relocation and renaming of the Village Branch to our new Southgate Branch, the development of the new east end Tuttle Branch and the recently opened Northridge Branch.
Board of Trustees President, Walt Szczesny, had the following to say:
“The Board would like to thank Bill for his leadership during his tenure as Director and for helping to make this a great library system.”
And Board Member Lisa Henry added:
“Director Martino has certainly been an asset to the Clark County Public Library. The library has grown and made a positive impact on the Springfield and Clark County community under his leadership. It has been a pleasure, as a board member, to work with Bill. I am sorry to see him leave but wish him all the best in this new chapter of his life.”
Matt Naylor, the library’s Assistant Director and Systems Coordinator has been appointed by the Board of Trustees to take over duties as Interim Director.
“I am confident that Matt will do a great job going forward. His IT background will be crucial as library trends begin to shift to more of an online presence,” said Martino of the appointment.
Naylor has worked for the library system for 23 years in a variety of roles, including IT Department Manager and Systems Coordinator, a role which he still holds.
When asked about his appointment to Interim Director he said “I am honored to step into the role of Interim Library Director, where I will support our dedicated staff and uphold our commitment to exceptional customer service. During this transition, I look forward to working collaboratively with staff to advance key initiatives and ensure that the Clark County Public Library remains a vital asset to our community.”
