Bookmobiles

About the Bookmobiles

Farber Specialty Vehicles (Columbus, Ohio) built the Clark County Public Library’s two Sprinter model bookmobiles on Freightliner chassis. Graphics were designed by Applied Graphics LTD (Mansfield, Ohio). One was received in 2017 and the other in 2022. Key features of these vehicles include a wider range of mobility, better fuel efficiency and removable carts. All electrical systems are powered through the whisper-quiet diesel engine.

Most recently, in 2023, the library replaced the previous Thomas Bookmobile with a new Freightliner - MT55, Stepvan Bookmobile, which was also customized by Farber Specialty Vehicles. The new 26-foot bookmobile features an exterior white board, electric canopy and handicap accessibility through the back lift bay.

What is on the Bookmobiles?

The bookmobiles are compact collection on wheels! The collection includes adult and juvenile titles, best-selling fiction, large print items, gentle reads, periodicals and paperbacks. A selection of popular DVDs, music, and audiobooks are also available.

Almost any item not found on the shelves of the bookmobiles may be requested for future pickup at a selected community stop.

Visiting the Bookmobiles

The bookmobiles visit the shopping centers in Park Layne and Northridge, South Vienna and other stops in Springfield and Clark County. There are also a variety of stops at schools, daycare centers and Head Starts.

Items borrowed from other Clark County Public Library locations (except framed art & discovery packs) can be returned to a bookmobile for your convenience.

Checkout is the same as at other Clark County Public Library locations: bring your library card for quick and easy access.

The best way to use the bookmobiles is to pick a regular stop (every 2 weeks), contact the Bookmobile Department to notify us and the staff will make a note on your account. You can still use the other library locations – just make sure that you choose the correct pickup location when placing reserve requests online.

You may sign-up for a new library card on the bookmobile. Children need a parent or guardian to sign the application. All applicants must present a photo ID and proof of current address.

Reserves for stops are carried for only one day. If they are not checked out, they are returned to the department for the next visit.
